Fragment depicting the Lion of St. Mark in fine rubbio marble. Provenance Venice, private collection. Beautiful and unique in form, it looks almost like a fragment of a larger composition. The lion is depicted with a closed book and sword above. Work of high workmanship and quality. Note the aggressive and decisive pose of the lion, the anatomical details such as the nose, mouth, mane, etc.-wonderful work. The marble has a really fine patina, as well as the veining that is expressed with an uncommon luster. Rare and never presented exclusive lot. Specifies the attention to detail and anatomy of the lion. Perfect when hung on the wall, ideal both indoors and outdoors. Proportionate, medium size and not negligible weight given its thickness.
