A famille-rose dish


Qianlong (1736-1795) The dish is decorated to the center in bright enamels with a scene of European male figures seated at a wooden table playing cards. One of the figures with raised goblet and his arm around a lady holding a wine jug in her left hand. The cavetto is decorated in black and gold with a spiralling border below four alternated sprigs of peony and peach. The rim is dressed brown. 23 cm diameter Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Mrs. Kamphuis (1916-2002) The scene on this dish is painted after one the famous paintings ‘Fêtes Champêtre’ by the Flemish artist David Teniers de Jongere (1610-1690), born in Antwerp.
