A smal Japanese Kakiemon dish


17th - 18th century The shallow saucer is of octagonal form with rounded sides and is painted in the interior in delicate blue, green and red colours with two quails amidst stems of millet. The rim dressed brown. 11 cm diameter     Provenance: Formerly in an important American collection     A Kakiemon saucer with a similar pattern of quails and millet is illustrated in Soames Jenyns, Japanese Porcelain, London, 1965, pl. 76B.
