A small Qingbai box and cover


Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279) The box is of hexafoil section with barbed rim and has a shallow, broad circular foot. The cover is moulded in fine relief with a hexafoil floret surrounded by leaf-shaped panels enclosing smaller florets. The interior and exterior are covered with a transparent light blue glaze. The base and the rim of the box and cover are left unglazed. 7.3 cm diameter    Provenance: Sotheby's London, 9 June 1992, lot 115 An American private collection   An almost identical box and cover is illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Vol. Three (II), London, 2006, pl. 1599.
