The elongated clear glass bottle is enamelled with a continuous scene of three egrets standing amidst tall stems of lotus. The flat oval base is inscribed Da Qing Nian Zhi (made during the great Qing dynasty) in red enamel. Pink tourmaline stopper.
7.6 cm high (without stopper)
Provenance:
Formerly in the collection of John and Gerda Reys, acquired prior to the 1980's
A Qianlong mark and period yellow glass bottle with a very similar lotus decoration is illustrated in Helen White, Snuff Bottles from China, The Victoria and Albert Museum Collection, London, 1992, pl. 61.2.
The egret in combination with lotus is a pun for 'Continuous Promotion' (yilu liansheng) and is therefore associated with the wish "May you have continuous promotions all through your career".
