TAJT IKEA lounge chair

TAJT IKEA lounge chair

Year 1973 Function Easy chair Design Gillis Lundgren TAJT is a fun, exciting piece of soft furniture. An easy chair, a bed, a kind of tête-à-tête sofa. … De-stress on TAJT, listen to music on TAJT, watch TV on TAJT!” Often found in Jeans fabric The text makes it sound as if the world had just been waiting for denim furniture. But the story behind TAJT is far more practical. Ingvar Kamprad had bought kilometres of jeans fabric from a factory in China, and it was up to the product developers and designers to find a use for it. Lars Göran Peterson, head of purchasing at IKEA, said in a 2017 interview: “Ingvar Kamprad said ‘You need to start making products because the fabric will be here soon’. It’s interesting that denim is well-known in clothing, but no one has thought of using it for furniture. That fresh thinking, going outside the box and thinking differently, is very typical of Ingvar and IKEA.” TAJT was in the IKEA catalogue for a full nine years, up to 1981.
La Grande Torchere

La Grande Torchere

The outstanding 1963 model Torchere is the new star of Les Editions Serge Mouille. Minutiously replicated by Carl who was Mouille’s protegé to further expend Mouille's works prior to his death in 1988. So it will be an Atelier Serge Mouille lamp numbered of up to 50 pairs with the choice of right and left as per photographs here below. The fixing is also very special. Unlike any other Mouille's who specifically insisted that the lamp fixes against the wall will a brass ring ! Also Carl extended the way the Torchere were lit with a double detachable bulb also designed by Mouille. An amazing lamp

Cut and Shut Rope Chair

Cut and Shut Rope Chair

For centuries designers have tried to create the illusion of furniture made from rope, either by twisting solid steel bars together, or carving the rope’s form into solid wood. The effect was realistic but the material no more expressive than the solid from which the pieces were made. Exploiting the flexibility of steel rope, the Cut and Shut Rope chair is first formed into a complex Celtic knot which is then “frozen” by infusing the fibres with an alloy. Made of this new material, the final form is polished to give a lustrous texture not unlike antique silver. The process was developed with James Garner, Tom Dixon’s prototype maker, the chair designed under the guidance of Liliane Fawcett, Dixon’s gallerist. It is now available though Tanguy Rolin.
